How To Remove A Whirlpool Freezer Drawer

I think this is the same as yours:

Remove 2, ¼" screws on top/inside of freezer door and lift off the freezer drawer front. Pull out the lower basket as far as possible to access the basket stops. Insert a stiff blade putty knife behind the rail past the basket stop and force the rail inward while inserting a small blade screwdriver into the square slot in the rail. Pry out the freezer basket stop. Only one stop needs to be removed.

With a basket stop removed, pull out both baskets. Lift out the upper basket. Push the lower basket toward the rear slightly to disengage the hooks and lift out.

If you have frost on the evaporator cover it sounds like you have a defrost problem.

I'm attaching your owners manual below, page 9 looks like what Rick said is correct.

1. Open the freezer drawer to its full extension.
2. Remove the two screws at the top, inside the drawer front (one on the left-hand side and one on the right-hand side) that fasten the drawer front to the drawer glides.
3. Lift up on the drawer front to release the plastic studs from the drawer glide bracket slots.

Watch this video too:

Here's the tech. data sheet for your model: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wb18uu5rpjszs41/WRF736SDAM1 Tech Sheet.pdf?dl=0 Put it in diagnostics and see if your defrost thermostat(bi-metal) is working properly, and the defrost heater should come on in that Service Test 6.

Make sure the defrost thermostat is covered in frost before you do the diagnostics. Because it has to be frosty for it to be closed and for the heating element to come ON.

If its not frosty, Watch this video:

Leave it in the ice water for at least 5 minutes before ohm testing it

The defrost thermostat on this model only comes with the evaporator fan motor.

Here it is below, its the black round part with the metal clip on it.

Let us know what you find.

I'm glad you were able to get the door off and find the problem. Thanks for the update (y)
